Martin Needham is an experienced aviation photographer and journalist based in North West England. His images have been published on more than 350 occasions in a wealth of periodicals including Aeroplane Monthly, AIR International, AirForces Monthly, Airliner World, Airports International, Airports of the World, Aviation News, Britain at War, FlyPast, Flight International, Global Aviation Magazine, Jets Monthly and Pilot.

He served as the editor of Airliner World between November 2021 and August 2022 and Aviation News from August 2022 until September 2024. Prior to that, he spent four years on the editorial teams responsible for Airliner World, Airports of the World, AIR International, Airports International and Aviation News. He is an experienced news and features writer, having frequently produced copy for the aforementioned titles as well as contributing to Aeroplane Monthly and FlyPast on a freelance basis.

He also possesses extensive airside and aviation events experience having previously worked on the apron at Manchester Airport and through volunteering in the running of airshows, fly-ins and photocalls across the UK for almost a decade. He co-founded Threshold.aero - now the UK’s biggest aviation photography events company - in 2016 and now assists Thomas Castle Aviation Heritage with the running of their night photoshoots at Sywell Aerodrome, Northants, and Breighton Airfield, North Yorkshire.

Night photography is a particular interest of Martin’s, and he is unique in his ability to illuminate either several small aircraft concurrently or one large business jet/single-aisle airliner for night-time photography commissions.
